About Us - Our History

ORC Industries is a private, not-for-profit company that has a 37-year history of "thinking big." Over 700 people are now employed in our five plants; three in Wisconsin and two in Texas. We are capable of accommodating the needs of our current and future customers.     The corporate commitment is to give employment opportunities to persons with disabilities and to provide quality products, delivered on time, at competitive prices. Such opportunities offer cost effective labor alternatives to many satisfied customers.     ORC has undertaken a variety of business challenges including incorporating ISO 9000. Our resume includes divisions that specialize in sewing many types of apparel items for the federal government, cutting and spreading of material, quality inspection, woodworking, light assembly, packaging, sorting, embroidery, screen-printing, plastic injection molding, warehousing, and logistics.     Our technical staff worked closely with B.F. Goodrich to successfully develop a sealant for the United States Armed Forces poncho. Several other companies had tried to develop the correct sealant for the poncho, but failed in their attempts. Due to the diligence of ORC developing the correct sealant, we have been manufacturing the poncho since 1983.     In 1995, ORC collaborated with Natick Research & Development Laboratories in Natick, Massachusetts, to develop a product called the Improved Rainsuit. Natick is one of the main testing and research facilities of the government. ORC produced several prototypes until the Army determined the rainsuit that best met the needs of the U.S. soldiers. ORC began production of this Improved Rainsuit in 1997.     The fact that at least 75 percent of our labor has some type of disability has never limited our strengths or compromised our product commitment in the competitive business world. As a company, we have performed numerous manufacturing tasks, but we believe there are even more prospects in our future.     Our commitment to providing opportunities and the pride we have about our products is embedded in every layer of the company.
